With reference to my despatch No.291 of the 15th instant, I have the honour to request that a reply to the first part of paragraph 5 may be sent by telegraph, in order that in the event of your approval of the appointment of an Additional Assistant Superintendent of Police I may at once communicate on the subject with the Government of India.
2. I may add that I endorse the opinion of the Honourable Captain Superintendent of Police with regard to the advisability of appointing an official who, in addition to performing some of the ordinary duties of the head of the Police, will be specially competent to deal with the large section of the force which is composed of natives of India.
